Laser Hair Removal for the
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Community

According to research carried out by Verity, a UK charity for women whose lives are affected by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), one of the most common and embarrassing symptoms is excess facial and body hair.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Most women who suffer from PCOS have thick hair growth in places where only men usually have hair such as the face, neck, back, chest, nipple area, knuckles and toes.

Although shaving, waxing and threading can solve the problem temporarily, most women with PCOS are looking for a longer term solution.

What is PCOS?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), also known as polycystic ovary disease, is a condition that affects up to 10% of females of reproductive age worldwide.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Women who suffer from PCOS have irregular hormone production.

This means their ovaries produce high levels of the male hormone, testosterone, which causes excessive hair growth and other symptoms such as irregular periods (menstrual cycle), infertility, weight gain and numerous other health problems.

PCOS is treatable, but it cannot be cured. For detailed information on PCOS, please go to Wikipedia

On this website I discuss various hair removal methods, in particular, how a course of laser hair removal can help to permanently reduce hair growth.

I am going to share my own personal experience of treating hundreds of women suffering from PCOS with laser and how it has changed their lives.

When I meet women suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome, they are normally very stressed and emotionally disturbed as a result of the condition.

In some cases, the excessive hair growth on their face is so bad that it looks like a man's beard, often with a five o'clock shadow.

Most of my PCOS clients have to tweeze every day just to remove the unwanted hair, and they often end up scarring their skin. From my experience, the scarring does not bother them as much as the unsightly hair.

For example, one of my clients used to hide her neck with a scarf, even in the summer months, because she was so embarrassed about the unwanted hair on her neck.

After undergoing 3 laser hair removal sessions, she returned for a fourth session and was elated because her hair growth had slowed down and the dark patches around her chin had disappeared.

She now appears and feels like a completely different person who no longer hides her neck with a scarf!

Most PCOS sufferers who first undergo laser hair removal will require 6 to 12 sessions with regular top-ups to keep the hair growth under control.

It's a lifetime commitment, but it's definitely preferable to threading and waxing every couple of days.
